How self-empowerment is the new self help

How self-empowerment is the new self help

If you’re looking for ways to work through personal challenges, you may spend quite a few hours researching self-help. Maybe you’ve even tried some methods already.

It can be tough trying to find the best ways to help yourself through the turbulence that life can bring.

At POD HR and Training, we are specialists in development solutions. Our main skill set is through NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). This means we understand how external events come into our mind and determine our emotional states.

Through NLP we have helped to empower many people with great results.

With that in mind, we wanted to share some information that can help you to free yourself from the limits you place on yourself. I want to show you how empowerment is the best way to help yourself.

Why is empowerment important?

Empowerment is a word we don’t always consciously think about, so why is it so important?

Most of our challenges or inhibiting emotional states arise from believing that we are stuck in something and don’t have choices. Reactions become trapped and trigger emotional states that are, well, undesirable.

It’s fair to say that life can challenge us. Our minds are complex and most people forget that it’s a muscle that we CAN control and change.

I know, easy to say and not so easy to do. But we really do have the power to use this undeniably amazing resource to our advantage.

All we need to do is understand how our mind works and properly connect with it. I know it may seem a little fluffy and too good to be true. When I first discovered NLP I wasn’t sure if it was that easy either.

Once I connected with my inner self and realised that I have the power to empower myself, my life changed dramatically.

Old challenges seemed easy. Previous pain became learning curves and self-love and confidence grew from within.

Since then, I have had a personal passion for helping others to discover their own power and expand their possibilities in life.

How to empower yourself

Remember that everything is a choice

How you act, where you spend time, who you spend time with…it’s all your choice.

Make sure to review your choices and how they’re working out for you. You’re the boss of your life. You’re in charge. So act like it.

Take control and make choices that serve you well, get you closer to your goals and provide you with happiness and fulfilment.

We don’t always get our choices right, that’s not what this is about. This is about you becoming aware of how you can steer your own ship through life, reaching more of your chosen destinations.

Maybe start by taking time out each day to reflect on the choices you’ve made. Assess which choices served you will and which ones you’re disappointed with. You can learn from it.

When you do this, consider what there is to learn about the choice and why it wasn’t the right one? It’s not about the outcome or the external circumstances, it’s about your internal feelings and reactions. THAT’S the learning that changes our minds, shapes our patterns and directs our behaviours.

This is a very important learning situation. It’s not something that’s going to affect your life overnight, but something that’s a lifelong process which will guide you to where you want to be.

So, just to recap – you’re in charge of your mind and therefore your results.

Be accountable and eradicate blame

This is often a challenge. Even the best of us seek reasons for things going wrong and tend to look outside rather than inward.

The problem with that is that everything on the outside is not within our control. When you look at the situation differently, and see what YOU could have done differently, YOU have the control.

It’s not about blaming yourself. It’s about learning and realising that something you did attracted a certain outcome. When you learn from your actions, you can discover how to attract a different response in the future.

This makes you more and more powerful all the time.

It’s not all about you.

This is important, but what do I mean by this?

Often the reason why we hurt when someone treats us badly is because we take it personally. We think it means there is something bad about us or what we’ve done. In reality, their behaviour is usually down to their feelings about themselves and not you.

You see, everyone has their own experiences in life that have led them to today, and it’s always about that journey. There is always a positive intent behind every behaviour, even if we can’t see it that way at the time.

The positive intent could be that someone has suffered, and the intention of saying something hurtful to you is to self-defend because they have deep rooted fears. This is just one example, but you can see what I mean.

We act based on our own internal world, our own needs. That means you never really need to worry about what people think.

It’s good to be humble and care, but no-ones opinions should affect you, stop you, or limit you. You are powerful and you can be anything you want to be.

Connect with yourself at a deeper level

You can do this by considering why you act in certain ways. Some key questions to ask yourself are;

“For what purpose?”

“What is the intention of this?”

“What will I get from this?”

When you ask these questions, you need to listen to the first thing that pops into your mind. Your deeper mind will help you and empower you if you connect with it. Your deeper self craves power, so once you start listening to it you can enjoy total empowerment.

Sound good?

It is. It’s amazing. And I promise you, you can have it. The fact that you are reading this means that you are empowering yourself.

So, use the questions above to connect with what you are really after whenever you make a decision or choice. Steer your ship with a clearer direction and achieve what you never thought possible before.
